The Emblem Fiano is a monument to the remarkable growth of this grape in McLaren Vale, after 22 years since the Lloyd family planted the first Fiano vine. The unique climate of the region encourages wines of aromatic richness and textural depth, and this Fiano is a genuine reflection of the journey.
Tasting Notes
Bouquet: Notes of Jasmine and honeysuckle intertwine with the freshness of green apple, nashi pear and white peach. Hints of citrus, lemongrass, and a subtle touch of pineapple also make their presence felt.
Palate: Fresh citrus, nectarine, and the crispness of green apple take centre stage. Ginger and a sprinkle of white pepper on the back palate add a layer of complexity. It introduces a bright acidity that is perfectly balanced with the flavour. As the wine evolves, a touch of creaminess emerges, a result of its time spent aging on lees.
Winemaking
The 2023 Fiano had a delayed ripening due to the cooler season. The grapes showcased low pH levels and high TA, a result of the cold vintage. Sourced from the Michael Petrucci Family Vineyard on Sand Rd, McLaren Vale, the grapes were harvested in early April.
To preserve the fruit’s freshness, they were picked during the early morning hours to minimize oxidation. Gentle pressing of the fruit released the free-run juice, which was immediately sent for fermentation without any skin contact period. This approach maintained the pure and fresh Fiano fruit flavours.
The fermentation process took place at temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, ensuring a slow and extended fermentation that extracted floral notes and a vibrant freshness. After fermentation, the wine matured for three months in a stainless-steel tank, resting on fine lees. Vegan friendly.
